Bruce Springsteen (76) ha anunciado una feliz noticia para él y su familia. El cáncer de su mujer, Patti Scialfa, se encuentra en remisión. Fue hace más de ocho años cuando a la cantante y guitarrista, que cumplió 73 años el pasado 29 de julio, le diagnosticaron un mieloma múltiple, un tipo de cáncer de sangre.

El músico lo ha anunciado mediante un vídeo enviado a Pan-Mass Challenge, evento benéfico que recauda fondos para la investigación y el tratamiento del cáncer. Springsteen agradeció la labor de médicos, enfermeras e investigadores, y destacó el papel fundamental de la ciencia para ofrecer esperanza a millones de familias que afrontan esta enfermedad.

"La esperanza tiene rostro", ha dicho sobre los profesionales sanitarios. Y ha reivindicado: "La trayectoria de Patti nos ha enseñado algo. Espero que todos nosotros y todos los estadounidenses lo entiendan. La investigación médica no es una idea. No es política. No es una partida presupuestaria".

El cáncer de sangre de Patti Scialfa

Patti Scialfa fue diagnosticada de mieloma múltiple en 2018. Ambos lo mantuvieron en la más estricta intimidad hasta 2024, cuando la artista reveló públicamente su diagnóstico en el documental Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, donde explicó cómo la enfermedad había cambiado su vida y su carrera profesional.

Debido a que el mieloma múltiple afecta al sistema inmunológico, la cantante redujo considerablemente su participación en las giras de la E Street Band. Aun así, ha seguido subiéndose al escenario de forma puntual cuando su estado de salud se lo ha permitido, algo que ella misma describió como su "nueva normalidad".

From the first mile of this trip, we asked people the same question: what song, what artist, makes you think of America?

The answers came from everywhere, a hundred different roads leading to a hundred different songs. But one name kept coming back more than any other — Bruce Springsteen.

Ask ten people why and you’ll get ten different answers, and somehow they’re all right. Maybe it’s the sound — a working man’s mix of rock, soul, gospel, and folk. Maybe it’s the sleight of hand — a song like “Born in the U.S.A.” that sounds like a flag-waving anthem until you realize it’s a protest song wearing the flag as a disguise. Maybe it’s the work ethic — three-hour shows, four-decades on the road. Or maybe the answer is simpler than all of that:

The first thing we saw walking into the new Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music wasn’t Bruce at all — it was Woody. An exhibit on Guthrie and a display case on Folk. Pete Seeger’s banjo and a nod to Dylan going electric at Newport.

Bruce isn’t the end of the chain — he’s simply the next link.

He was generous with his time, warm, and genuinely lit up hearing we’d been out on the ribbon of highway chasing this exact question. When it was over, Devon and I didn’t say much — we just drove straight to Asbury Park and stood at the edge of the Atlantic.

.En el museo de archivos de Bruce, algunas personas de la web Blog it all night pudieron escuchar la versión definitiva de "Protection". Primícia única para el museo? Muy raro. Algo hay.

.En el mismo sitio se pudo visionar un video de la gira del 84-85 del tema "Hungry heart", en gran calidad, también dicen en foros.

.Luego está la filtración de Wikileaks en 2015. Ya sé que diréis que eso expiró y bla bla bla. Pero lo que expira es ese contrato el 30 de junio del 2027. Y Bruce lo ha publicado casi todo, tiene pendiente la box del "Born in the USA" y un disco nuevo. Así que haced cuentas... O sea, ambos proyectos deben editarse antes de la fecha, aunque apuesto por los dos este años, sí, en 4 meses, así que estad alerta!

Olvidad lo que Bruce dijo que no había material para una box del disco.

No . I have not done anything on a Born in the USA box set. First of all, what people need to understand is that most of the Born in the USA great outtakes are out there on Tracks 1. The Born in the USA stuff we have left either isn’t very good or there isn’t any of it. I’m not sure which.

Bruce Springsteen sends video message, sings ‘Born to Run’ for Pan-Mass Challenge riders in Worcester

In 1984 Billy Starr, founder and chairman of the Pan-Mass Challenge, wrote a letter to Bruce Springsteen inviting him to show up at the annual bike ride and fundraiser for cancer research at Dana-Farber Institute in Boston.

Forty-two years later, the Boss delivered Friday when he surprised riders with a pre-recorded message and an acoustic rendition of his anthem, “Born to Run,” during the annual “State of PMC” program at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.

“Hello Billy, Paul and the whole PMC family, ” Springsteen said, gently strumming his guitar on video. “Weeee’re a little late, but here we are and it’s a pleasure to be with you.”

“Since 1980, you have inspired a community that has done something remarkable,” the 76-year-old rocker said. “You’ve never stopped believing that ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference, and because of that,countless lives have been saved.”

The PMC, held every year on the first weekend of August, has raised over $1 billion dollars for cancer research at Dana-Farber since its founding in 1980.

This year, the ride-a-thon on Aug. 1 and 2 aims to raise $79 million, with 6,500 riders expected to take part from Worcester and Wellesley to Cape Cod. There are 14 routes, with riders able to choose paths ranging from 25 miles to 187 miles.

Starr announced recently that he won’t be riding this year due to an injury suffered in a bike crash. But he’ll be rooting on the riders. This year’s theme is “Now More Than Ever.”

“This year, now more than ever that work has never been more important,” Starr said on the video, an apparent reference to government cuts to science funding. “Now More than ever, because the moment we’re living in demands it.”

For Springsteen, cancer and Dana Farber is personal. His wife Patti Scialfa is being treated for multiple myeloma there by Dr. Paul G. Richardson.

Scialfa has been living with the disease for more than eight years, but is now “thankfully in remission,” Springsteen said.

“However, like millions of families facing cancer, we’ve learned what every patient learns, hope has a face,” Springsteen said. “It’s our physician who refuses to stop searching and caring, it’s our nurse who sits beside us when we’re scared and always makes our journey just a little bit easier.”

Springsteen said that everyday Richardson and his team provide “hope and amazing care” to all his patients and their families, including for him and his wife Patti.

Springsteen said his wife’s journey has taught him something he hope every American can understand.

“Medical research isn’t an idea,” Springsteen said. “It isn’t politics, it isn’t a line in a budget. It’s the reason families find hope when hope seems hardest to find. When we lose sight of that, we lose sight of one another, and that’s too high a price for anyone to pay.”

Springsteen said he has spent his life “writing songs about the people who keep believing when life gives them every reason not to,” and “those who refuse to leave someone behind.

“That’s always been the best of America to Patti and I…,” Springsteen said. “Now, more than ever, the world needs more everyday heroes like the folks who make up the PMC.”

He then capped off the message with a final salute to the PMC participants before performing “Born to Run,” which he said is “one of my best riding songs.”

Más gente escribía que fueron a ver ayer domingo a los archivos ayer y la sección donde se podían escuchar los archivos había una selección de agosto con cosas. Una de esas cosas que se podían escuchar era la versión de Protection de Donna Summer, y luego la de Bruce.

Esta noticia vuelve a reaavivar los rumores de un posible Tracks 3 en el que se incluyan o incluso la tan rumoreada y esperada caja de Born in the U.S.A.  Ademas, hace no muchos meses, Bruce dijo que no quería esperar mucho a sacar al Tracks 3, y se podría decir que incluso lo confirmó.

Escuchar las versiones claras de Protection, Drop Down y Cover Me, o poder escuchar la versión a dúo de Bruce con Donna Summer de Protecction. Hay también varias canciones esperadas como Walking in the Street / Lovers in the Cold también, aunque no están remasterizadas. 

Veremos este año tras el verano o con la llegada de las navidades lo que el jefe nos depara.
